Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT/MT) – Job Description

Position Summary:
Performs laboratory testing on patient specimens to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Ensures accuracy, quality control, and timely reporting of results in a clinical setting.

Core Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and complex laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and blood bank

• Collect, process, and analyze patient specimens (blood, urine, body fluids)

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment

• Ensure accuracy and reliability of test results through quality control procedures

• Review and verify lab results before reporting to physicians

• Maintain proper documentation in laboratory information systems (LIS)

• Follow infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, OSHA)

• Assist in calibration and preventive maintenance of lab equipment

• Communicate critical values and abnormal results to healthcare providers

• Maintain inventory of lab supplies and ensure proper storage of specimens

• Participate in proficiency testing and continuous quality improvement initiatives
